Out of State Registration

If you recently moved to California or purchased a vehicle from another state, we help make the registration process clear. We review your documents, coordinate the next steps, complete the VIN verification at our office, and submit the package to DMV on your behalf.

How we help

Vehicles already in your name

You moved to California and need to register a vehicle you already own.

Out of state purchases

You bought a vehicle in another state and need to complete California registration.

Gifted vehicles

The vehicle was gifted and now needs to be registered properly in California.

Financed or leased vehicles

We help identify what extra lienholder or leasing documentation may be needed.

What is Usually Required

Original out of state title

  • This is usually required to transfer or register the vehicle in California.
  • If there is a lienholder or finance company, we may need additional lienholder information.

Current out of state registration

  • Helpful if the title is not immediately available or if we need to verify ownership and vehicle details.

California insurance

  • The vehicle must have California insurance before we submit the package.

Copy of the client’s driver’s license

  • We need a copy to include with the DMV package.

Smog certificate

  • Required for most gasoline vehicles and some hybrids.
  • If they want to use our preferred smog vendor, we can coordinate the smog inspection for them.

VIN verification

  • We complete this when the client brings the vehicle to our office.
  • The vehicle must be physically present for VIN verification.

DMV forms

  • We provide and complete the required DMV forms with the client.

Purchase documents, if recently purchased

  • Bill of sale
  • Purchase agreement
  • Dealer paperwork
  • Any sales tax or registration fee documents already paid

Lienholder or lease company information, if financed or leased

  • Name of finance or lease company
  • Address
  • Account information if available
