No Hassle Transfer of Ownership
Register the purchase of a vehicle from a private party now and avoid penalties.
– If you purchase a vehicle from another person (rather than a dealer) in the state of California or outside of the state, you have 10 days after the purchase to transfer vehicle ownership from the seller to yourself.
– Make sure you receive the vehicle title (aka “pink slip”) signed by the person selling the car, as well as a smog certification. Also, note the mileage on the odometer if the vehicle is less than 10 years old.
